Why Gina went home

“American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest and Gina Glocksen
Her strongest week may have been this week. So, why did Gina Glocksen get the lowest number of votes?
There are many possible reasons, obviously, but I think most likely it has to do with the fact Gina didn’t pick up steam until late in the competition. Of course, that doesn’t explain why Haley Scarnato still is hanging in there. And nothing can explain the Sanjaya Malakar situation. One thing that example does prove is America isn’t always voting for the best. At least this week’s top three contestants — Melinda Doolittle, LaKisha Jones and Jordin Sparks — are the best in the competition.
This is a show where votes matter, and someone dialing in 15 or 20 votes is a big deal — even when almost 33 million votes are cast. Fans who use speed dial for an entire two hours, and there are a lot of them, really are making the show. That basically means, even if Haley has fewer fans, their dedication could be what’s keeping her in the competition.
I’m not an expert on phone dialing or multiple voting, but I certainly think this theory is what is playing out here. It almost definitely is how Sanjaya is remaining a strong competitor.
And while we’re on the topic, I think it’s safe to say Sanjaya could hang on for several more weeks. Don’t even be surprised if he’s in the top three. But there’s no way he can win the show. There’s just too much power behind a couple of other contestants for that to happen. But expect some more surprise eliminations before a Season 6 winner is crowned. That’s how this show works.

I really didn’t like Gina anyway.. I kind of wanted it to be a double vote off so Haley could leave as well because I can’t stand here either.

I think the producers should do like the ones for “Dancing with the Stars” did. Give each viewer ten votes and only ten votes. I can’t help but think that would make things a lot “fairer” and events like Gina being sent home too early could be avoided.

I was sad to see Gina go–at least she was a bit different than everyone else in the competition. I think Haley’s hanging on because she’s pretty, which is a real shame.

I don’t remember this season but I did hear her sing. I remember watching this episode though. I found she didn’t sing her best. She has a good voice. But maybe she didn’t pick the right song.
