Tony Bennett sets the standard for ‘Idol’

Tony Bennett will be the guest mentor for this week on “American Idol.”
A Grammy Award-winning musician who is best known for “I Left My Heart in San Francisco,” Tony Bennett is the next to mentor the “American Idol” finalists.
Bennett, a fan of the show himself, will lead the remaining nine contestants for an evening of standards. The singer will be able to draw on his decades of experience to help the young artists further themselves in the business.
“You learn things like knowing not to stay on the stage too long so you are always welcomed back,” Bennett is quoted as saying in a story on MSNBC.com. “I’ve learned everything from my audiences; they have become my best teachers.”
In other “Idol” news this week, everyone is continuing to talk about Sanjaya — and his hair — and Chris Sligh — and the fact he said he almost quit the show.
