Those for — and against — Sanjaya

Stephanie Edwards give the crowd a thumbs up as Sanjaya sits to her left at Wednesday’s results show.

There’s been more talk about why he remained safe once again than there was over why Stephanie Edwards was booted from the show. Stephanie Edwards, you know, the one with so much more talent than Sanjaya may ever have — at least when it comes to singing.

But, no, I’m not bitter. Not at all.

On Sanjaya’s side, there’s Ashley Ferl, the 13-year-old who cried like she’d been punched in the face when she was at Tuesday night’s taping. Now the teenager is soaking up her own 15 minutes by appearing on the Today show, and talking to several other media outlets, including Access Hollywood.

That’s when she said this about her favorite “Idol” finalist: “His voice and his hair and his personality, just everything,” Ashley said. “He’s just like — phenomenal.”

Like, no, he really isn’t phenomenal. I realize I’m now getting angry at a 13-year-old. And that’s not OK. But fortunately there are plenty of people trying to get Sanjaya ousted. Including someone who goes by the name “J” and is creating her own buzz with “Starvation for Sanjaya.”

“Aside from the initial debacle with contestant Antonella Barba, season 6 was starting to look like it may be actually very good. The big voices of Melinda Doolittle and LaKisha Jones, the innovative styling’s of Blake Lewis, and the smooth R&B of Phil Stacey are just a few of the hopefuls with immense potential.

“However, there is one hinge in this broad spectrum of talent this year … Sanjaya Malakar,” “J” wrote on her MySpace page. Each day the page is updated with the latest in the campaign, which has the author vowing not to eat until Sanjaya goes home.

Yes, it’s crazy. But I like it.
