Season 7 ‘Idol’ schedule

by Reed Dunn

The anticipation is almost killing me. And if you’re a fan of American Idol — I’m assuming you are if you found yourself here — you’re probably anxious for the Jan. 15 debut. Here’s how the first several weeks are going to play out:

The two-night series kick-off begins Jan. 15 and 16, where auditions from San Diego, Dallas, Omaha, Atlanta, Charleston, Miami and Philadelphia will be shown. This is where the good — but mostly the bad — get their first time to shine.

Audition episodes continue Jan. 22, 23, 29 and 30, as well as Feb. 5 and 6. All of those will be one-hour episodes. Then the real fun begins.

Hollywood week episodes begin Feb. 12, with a two-hour episode. Feb. 13 will be a one-hour episode, narrowing the field to the Top 24. Those contestants — 12 guys and 12 girls — begin showcasing their talents Feb. 19 and 20. Two men and two women will be eliminated Feb. 21, and the Top 20 — that’s 10 guys and 10 girls for the math-challenged — start competing Feb. 26. The guys perform on Tuesdays, and the girls perform on Wednesdays. Eliminations are announced Thursdays.

The Top 12 will be revealed March 6, and the finals begin March 11. So, who’s going to be the next Jordin Sparks? Only time will tell.
