Paula Abdul secures center seat
And Paula Abdul fumbles, again. That’s been the headline coming from this week’s episodes of American Idol. It’s almost as if people forgot Brooke White went home.
But the quick slip-up and double-critique of Jason Castro after he only sang one song somehow has taken the big bold print when it comes to Idol headlines. But, even though this is mistake No. 4,872 from Abdul this season alone, executives say she isn’t going anywhere.
“Why would we get rid of Paula?” Cecile Frot-Coutaz asked The Associated Press during an interview this week. Frot-Coutaz is CEO of FremantleMedia North America and an Idol executive producer.
“I love that everyone was talking about it,” she said. “It was so unexpected. It was something that took up 2 seconds of airtime. You’d think there was no other news on television.”
This type of hype is what makes Idol so appealing — because people get worked up over things that don’t really matter. I have to admit, personally, I’m kind of getting bored with this season, so it’s these goofy little sidebars that keep it interesting to watch.
