New ‘Idol’ show hits the stage
Plenty of former “American Idol” finalists — and even winner Fantasia Barrino — have taken their career to the Broadway stage.
Today, a new take on “Idol” was announced. “Idol: The Musical,” a show based on America’s favorite runner-up, Clay Aiken, is set to debut Off-Broadway on July 5 at the 45th Street Theatre. The musical recently played in Syracuse, N.Y.
The show is a satire set in Steubenville, Ohio, where a group of high school students meet each day at a shrine to Aiken. The students are all dork stereotypes, complete with Ritalin prescriptions and longing to one day have their own chance in the spotlight.
I don’t know about you, but this sounds like it could be a great laugh. I hope it makes it to a national tour.
