McPheever at the movies
Is it possible for an “American Idol” finalist to become the next Cameron Diaz? If so, Katharine McPhee would be the one.
That’s even more true now that McPhee has announced she will begin work on “The Last Caller,” an independent romantic comedy with a decent feature-sized budget — $5 to $8 million, according to “The Hollywood Reporter.”
McPhee plays a lead role in the movie, set to begin filming in New York later this year. The setting is perfect since McPhee’s character — like many others in this project — is looking for love and life meaning in the Big Apple.
This isn’t the first time an “Idol” finalist has gone the way of the big screen. There’s, oh, what’s her name? Oh, yeah. Jennifer Hudson, the one who took home almost every award this season — including Oscar — for her role in “Dreamgirls.”
Also, there’s Kevin Covais, who talked to me earlier this year about his upcoming “College,” which was filmed in New Orleans.
