Making the finals
Tonight four more semifinalists are leaving the show, meaning the top 12 — six guys and six girls — will be announced. Of course, before any of that can happen, we have to sit through another ridiculous group performance. I’m so over those.
Blake Lewis and LaKisha Jones are the first to make it into the top 12. Shocked? Me neither.
“You are safe,” Ryan also told Jordin Sparks. And Chris Sligh? Also in the top 12.
“I really want to move on,” Phil Stacey said told Ryan Seacrest before hearing the news he made the finals.

Jared Cotter was the first to be eliminated tonight.
What’s the fate of Jared Cotter? “The journey ends for you tonight,” Ryan told the singer, who was the first to get eliminated in the last night of semifinals.
The backup singers, Brandon Rogers and Melinda Doolittle? They’re safe.
Chris Richardson and Gina Glocksen? Also safe.

Antonella Barba is the second to be eliminated in the final semifinals episode.
Stephanie Edwards and Antonella Barba? “Antonella, the journey ends for you tonight,” Ryan says. And me? I say, “It’s about time. Don’t let the door hit ya …”
Antonella, like everyone else, gets another chance to sing for her fans. And, oh, yes, it still is painful. Sorry, but it is.

Sabrina Sloan
Haley and Sabrina? “One of you is staying, and one of you is going home,” Ryan said.
And, in the night’s biggest shocker, Haley continues and Sabrina Sloan goes home. America, what are you thinking?

Sundance Head was eliminated from “American Idol.”
Sanjaya or Sundance? Only one more space is left in the top 12, and that space goes to Sanjaya Malakar.
So, what was tonight’s big surprise? It’s a charity event. For every vote cast, Coca Cola, AT&T and Ford will help by donating cash during the episode featuring the top six finalists. “Idol” Gives Back will benefit both children in Africa and victims of hurricanes Rita and Katrina. You, the fans, also will have a chance to give back.
I’m not sure if this is the mid-season surprise, but I just hope this charity effort isn’t turned into something ridiculous. There are just too many opportunities for the show to make this go all wrong.
But, back to tonight’s episode. How in the world does America actually kick off semifinalists Sabrina Sloan and Jared Cotter? Maybe they weren’t the best two singers, but they certainly were much more qualified to make the top 12 than Haley Scarnato and Sanjaya Malakar. I just hope America gets it right from here on out.
Sanjaya Malakar, Sundance Head, Haley Scarnato, Sabrina Sloan, Antonella Barba, American Idol

I’m SOOOO happy Antonella is long gone. I’m not understanding though why Sanjaya is still in this. Oh, and Sabrina? That kind of surprises me… I was expecting what’s her name (Hayley?) the one that’s not in the least memorable….

I am so freakin’ angry right now. The only thing that could’ve been worse would’ve been Antonella NOT getting kicked off. This is insane. ARGGGGGG!
But, maybe Jared will get a modeling contract and I’ll see him on the front of an underwear package some time soon … one can always hope.

Like many others I am very angry that Sanjaya was not eliminated, he should have been kicked off 2 weeks ago. And yes, Hailey should have been given the boot too!!!
I am not even watching the show no more.

Hayley and Sanjaya???? I shouldn’t be surprised though. America voted for Bush a second time..hehehe. *runs and hides*

Yes, America got it wrong again. Sabrina’s voice was dang good, but I think she didn’t stick out enough. Not sure how Hayley made it, however, since she was completely terrible and unmemorable.
America got it right with Antonella though. Guess http://www.VoteForTheWorst.com didn’t work again. Oh well.
As for the guys, I can’t believe Jared didn’t make it. I thought it was going to be the bald dude and Sanjaya. But let’s face it Sundance could sing well, but he really botched it many times. He has a great name, which can do wonders for your career. Jared was Ok, but he was cheesy.
Overall, the awesome singers are still there (LaKisha, Jordin, Melinda) so that’s all that counts.
