Idol Gives Back and NOBODY goes home
More than 70 million votes were cast Tuesday night. Tonight an all-star lineup of musicians and actors joined in the two-hour charity show where more than $30 million was raised.
“If every person who ever voted for Sanjaya just gave $1, we could do so much,” actor Eric McCormack told “Idol” fans.
While Ryan ran the elimination portion of the show on the main stage, Ellen DeGeneres led an evening of guest performances from a downtown Los Angeles theater. Some of the highlights included a performance from the original “Idol,” Carrie Underwood, and a humorous skit featuring Jack Black.
Rascal Flatts, Il Divo, Celine Dion, Annie Lennox and Josh Groban were among the other performers. But the business at hand — aside from raising millions for charities in the U.S. and Africa — was to narrow the field to five. Here’s how that went:
First up, Melinda Doolittle. “America voted, and you’re safe,” Ryan quickly said.
Blake Lewis. “After the nationwide vote,” Ryan said. “Dude, you are safe.”
Phil Stacey’s fate? “After the vote, Phil Stacey, why are you smiling?” Ryan asked. “I love you, man,” Phil responded. “America loves you, too,” Ryan said. “Sit down. You’re safe.”
LaKisha Jones. “America voted, as you know, LaKisha … you are safe,” Ryan said.
Chris Richardson and Jordin Sparks are left. It seems to me it’s the worst and best of the night … and … Jordin Sparks also is safe. What? I’m confused.
“How could we let anybody go on a charity night?” Ryan said.
As it turns out, the votes from this week will be added to next week, and two people will go home. Poor, Jordin. I think I even almost had heart failure.
So, what do you think? Was this a lame move by the “Idol” producers? If you want to know what I think, well, the answer has three letters, not two.
COMING TOMORROW: My interview with the contestant better known as Chicken Little, Kevin Covais.

I am glad I am at work and not at home watching that stunt or there may have been a hole in the TV! Keep up the great work Reed.
