‘Idol’: A little backstage access
Imagine David Cook and David Archuleta fighting over the bathroom. Or Syesha Mercado and Brooke White making a pot of soup together.
It may seem a little wacky, considering American Idol is a singing competition, but that just might be the type of interaction we see when Idol’s eighth season premieres next month. According to celebrity gossip site TMZ, the Fox reality series may take on more of a Big Brother approach.
“We’re told producers have decided to show how the contestants interact with each other off the stage. They will show a lot more ‘behind the scenes’ than ever before,” the site wrote in a post this morning.
TMZ also says its sources have revealed there will be no Idol Gives Back and, despite all kinds of rumors, the four-judge panel is happening. In other words, Paula isn’t leaving the show. She may just be scooting her chair over to make room for Kara DioGuardi.
With the upcoming eighth season, the mixup of the format — showing more of the contestants interactions behind the scenes — may be just what the show needs. Because, even though it’s a singing competition, the personality (you know, the “it” factor) is a huge piece of the puzzle.

it doesnt seem like America is feeling the changes! check out the poll on TMZ, around 90 % voted Disaster! and I agree. it would just turn idol into a cheesy soap opera. No thanks.
I dont wanna see the contestants interract but I would love to see more judging interractions! after all, thats where the Real drama clearly happens. Idol has two really charismatic characters that have over shadowed every single contestant for 7 years- Paula Abdul and simon cowell. they need to show more of them imo. they are the real reason Idol is nr 1. not the singing. (if it was the singing, all the idol clones would be ratings hits but they arent)
