Grammy goes ‘Idol’

“Idol” winner Carrie Underwood shows off a pair of Grammys at the 49th annual awards show Sunday.
Aside from the fact “American Idol” Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood walked away with a pair of Grammy Awards to add to her growing collection of accolades, the singer also performed a tribute to many music greats, including the Eagles.
Underwood, who won best new artist and best female country performance for “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” was nominated in four categories. While she did have plenty of time on stage, the night really belonged to the Dixie Chicks and Mary J. Blige.
The good news is Underwood hasn’t forgotten where she got her start. “I owe everything to Simon Fuller and 19,” she said during her acceptance speech for best new artist.

Jennifer Hudson announces the “My Grammy Moment” contest winner is Robyn Troup.
In the night’s other “Idol”-inspired moment, Jennifer Hudson was on hand to announce the winner of the “My Grammy Moment” contest, which gave one unknown singer a chance to perform alongside Justin Timberlake.
“I am here as proof there really are second chances,” the Oscar-nominated Hudson said to the three finalists before announcing Robyn Troup had won the contest.
Obviously the “Idol” formula is being recognized by the folks who put together the Grammys. The “My Grammy Moment” contest was “Idol”-esque in the way people voted from a batch of finalists to determine who would sing with Timberlake.
