“Idol” finalist Jordin Sparks performs in front of a billboard supporting her during a trip home last week to Arizona.

After at trip to their hometowns — their first since beginning the “American Idol” Hollywood journey in January — the final three stopped by the set of “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.”

Leno asked the finalists about their trips home, voting for Sanjaya and Internet gossip that talks about them.

“We try our best not to,” Melinda said in response to a question about checking the Internet for thoughts and opinions. “There’s a lot of stuff on there, like me looking like Shrek …”

It’s not all bad, though. All three contestants said they were overwhelmed by the support they received during their hometown visits.

“It was very scary,” Jordin said. “I had no idea, like, screaming children. … There was so much support, and everybody was just so great.”

“It’s amazing how much support there is,” Blake said. “… Going back, it was like vacationing at home.”

Blake, who went home to Seattle, then admitted, “I’ve never had a cup of coffee in my life.”

When Leno asked about if they’d voted for themselves, Jordin said, “No, in complete honesty, my mom will say, ‘Jordin, get out your phones, get out your phones.’” The youngest finalist went on to say she picks up her phone and votes for other contestants. She and Melinda both even said they voted for Sanjaya. Blake, however, pretended to take a drink from the coffee cup on the table when that question was posed … wait, I thought Blake never drank coffee. (I know, I know.)

After the finalists finished the interview, Season 5 winner Taylor Hicks took the stage to perform “Heaven Knows” from his self-titled CD.

Tune in to FOX at 8/7c on Tuesday to see more from the hometown trips, as well as performances from the top three.

Also on late-night TV, Bucky Covington stopped by the set of “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”
