Sanjaya Malakar is a celebrity — thanks to American Idol. Now he’s saying, “Get Me Out of Here!” on the NBC reality series I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!

The series puts celebrities in the jungle to face off in challenges designed to test their survival skills without everyday luxuries. Each challenge — partially determined by America — includes rewards such as food, supplies or luxury items. The last celebrity standing will be crowned King/Queen of the Jungle, and a cash prize will be awarded to the charity of their choice.

Sanjaya advanced to seventh place on the sixth season of Idol, despite rough reviews from the panel of judges. The Federal Way, Wash., native’s quirky attitude and often wacky hair — remember his famed Ponyhawk? — caught America’s attention and kept him in the show.

sanjaya_celebrityJoining Sanjaya in the jungle are The Hills stars Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, John Salley, Janice Dickenson, Stephen Baldwin and wrestler Torrie Wilson. I’m A Celebrity premieres at 8/7c June 1 on NBC.
