Down to seven: Haley goes home

Haley Scarnato performs during her last week on the show. She was the fifth finalist eliminated from the finals.
I guess it had been a while since we’d been put through a group number, but during Latin week? Painful.
I’m ready to see who’s getting the boot, but I guess we’re going to be treated by a few extra performances tonight. Ah, the return of the one-hour elimination episodes.
The one-hour episode seems to be a mega-plug for “Idol Gives Back,” the charity event that aims to use the “Idol” brand to help educate children in Africa. And, from the way it looks, it seems like Simon may agree to get on stage if some mega-goal is reached. Stay tuned.
OK, let’s get to the results.
Phil Stacey is up first. Was his version of “Maria, Maria” good enough for America? Nope. Phil’s the first in this week’s bottom three.
LaKisha Jones? Safe.
Next up, Jordin Sparks. Also safe.
Sanjaya Malakar … wait. On to Melinda Doolittle. Safe, of course.
Haley Scarnato is next. And … back to the bottom three for another week.
Sanjaya … never mind.
What about Blake Lewis? And the best performer of the night is safe.
So, it’s down to Sanjaya and Chris Richardson. Who will round out the bottom three? Chris takes center stage, as Sanjaya is safe.
Almost as soon as he gets to the bottom three — give or take a commercial break — Chris gets sent back to safety. It’s down to Phil and Haley.
But first, a great performance from this week’s mentor, Jennifer Lopez. That was much better than the group performance.
After more than 35 million votes, Haley Scarnato is the next “Idol” casualty.
So, sans Sanjaya, did America get it right? I have to say the answer is yes. And I was starting to like Haley. She seems like a genuine person. Of course, you never know.
Coming next week: Country week with Martina McBride.
American Idol, Simon Cowell, Jennifer Lopez, Haley Scarnato, Martina McBride, Phil Stacey, Chris Richardson, Sanjaya Malakar, Melinda Doolittle, LaKisha Jones, Blake Lewis, Jordin Sparks

a site, mediacurves.com called it. slate.com is running their study. except for sanjaya, who they said was 8th, the got the rest of them. said haley was 7th, phil 6th and chris 5th. they are market researchers and tested 1210 people last night using fancy online response methods.

I didn’t take the market research test but I picked them off the same way. I don’t think I could have stood another week with Haley. When she started coming on stage in skimpies, I thought, oh gawd, why do women exploit themselves like that? She really didn’t need to do that.. what class she may have had went bye-bye as far as I’m concerned. Next up for Haley: Playboy.
