Daddy Archuleta loses backstage access

That all-access pass Jeff Archuleta has had throughout Season 7 of American Idol just got yanked.

The father of the youngest Top 3 finalists has crossed the line one too many times this year. So producers have taken away his access to rehearsals. Reports have surfaced that Jeff, father to David, finally pushed it too far when his decision to change the lyrics on Tuesday’s show — altering Stand By Me to include a verse of Sean Kingston’s Beautiful Girls — ended up costing the show more money. The extra song cost Idol extra royalty fees.

Of course, FOX has declined to comment. And Jeff seems to be nowhere in sight now, which probably is the smartest thing this stage dad could do to save his son’s chance at making it to the May 20-21 finale. Of course, America likely will feel sorry for little David, just because he has a dad who is stepping on his chances.

All three finalists were celebrated in their respective hometowns on Friday, part of what will be shown during this week’s episodes. The younger David returned to his high school in Murray, Utah for “David Archuleta Day,” while David Cook returned to the Kansas City area and Syesha traveled home to Florida.
