Country could spell trouble

Country superstar Martina McBride is this week’s guest mentor on “American Idol.”

I had high expectations from Latin week. Maybe it was J. Lo. In the end, the finalists let me down.

This week, I’m uncertain it will be any better. Country week, featuring multi-platinum recording artist Martina McBride as the guest mentor, traditionally has been a chance for a few singers to really show their talent.

In past seasons, there have been one or two contestants that really are a little more country than, say, rock ‘n’ roll. Josh Gracin. Carrie Underwood. Bucky Covington. Even Kelly Clarkson. But with this season’s top seven, I’m not sure there’s a real country voice left.

Had Haley Scarnato made it just one more week, I think she could have shined. She has a country edge. But Sanjaya? Melinda? Blake? I don’t see a country crooner among any of them. Of course, I had faith in the Latin stuff, and that didn’t turn out as expected.

So, what do you think? Who’s going to hit the high notes? And who’s going to struggle?

It is country week and I’m scared. This may be a train wreck. This season is so underwhelming. Never know, they may surprise me. The girls can always sing the pop stuff like Faith, Shania, too bad Gina is gone, she could have rocked some Miranda Lambert.Chris already did Keith Urban, wonder if he will again? Phil will know some country. I hope Blake does not beat box through Tim McGraw lol I may throw something at the TV. Should be interesting. Bucky will be in the audience on results night as his CD comes out tomorrow, but I don’t know if Seacrest will talk to him or not. Country is so wide ranging now, they should be able to find something they can do if they listen.

Crazily enough, I think I’d put my money on Phil this week. He and Jordin will probably do just fine. If Sanjaya keeps his current course of not being in the bottom three, I bet we’ll see someone new standing with Ryan for the final cut.

You know I think Phil will do good too. But bless his heart I just don’t know if he can get out of the bottom 3.I feel bad for him.Chris fans will vote hard this week so the bottom 3 could really be a shocker.
