Changes in store for ‘Idol’
If you were annoyed by the parade of celebrity guests appearing on the latest season of “American Idol,” you probably will be happier with the upcoming season.
Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe spoke on Sunday at a promotional tour for “So You Think You Can Dance” about his other big venture, “Idol.”
”We realized we made mistakes on Idol last season,” he told reporters. ”We were so engrossed with the mentors and didn’t really focus on the Melinda Doolittles of the show. We didn’t know them as much as the Kellie Picklers of last season.”
Lythgoe said on “Dance,” the focus is more on the contestants, including telling more about the work they had put into making it as a performer. On “Idol,” he said, the attention has been given more to big-name guests, which last year included Pink and Martina McBride among the largest list in the show’s history.
