An Independence Day disappointment
It was the first public performance from “American Idol” winner Jordin Sparks — along with runners-up Blake Lewis and Melinda Doolittle — and it turned out to be a big dud. Kind of like a firework gone bad.
The appearance at the televised Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular from New York City included a group performance of patriotic songs arranged to match the mood. Unfortunately, group performances don’t work for solo artists. It’s kind of like the terrible group tunes we’re forced to watch throughout the “Idol” season.
Not that Jordin, Blake or Melinda really had a say in the matter, but it would have been a much more entertaining performance had they each performed a piece of their best work from the season. It was an obvious plug for the upcoming American Idols Live tour, which starts Friday in Sunrise, Fla.
