An ‘American Idol’ movie? Really?

Rumor has it Simon Cowell is working on a big-screen version of the hit Fox reality series.

The “American Idol” movie is said to be called “Starstruck,” which Cowell said is about 10 contestants entering a giant singing competition.

“I’m going to cast the lead parts through an open audition process across America,” Cowell was quoted as saying. “So if you get through the auditions, and you get a part in this movie, it’s a huge, huge deal.”

The film does not yet have a listing on popular movie Web site www.imdb.com, but let’s not forget this movie basically already has been made. It’s called “American Dreamz,” and it stars Mandy Moore.

Also, let’s not forget the “Idol”-based Broadway show that didn’t last more than a few weeks on stage. Just a thought.
