‘American Idol’: Why David Hernandez was voted off
It may be the biggest controversy of the season. American Idol finalist David Hernandez was a stripper. And one that catered to mostly male clients at that.
When this story was revealed a couple of weeks ago, it began spreading quite rapidly. Even trusted news outlets – you know, CNN and the like – reported the story. So, was it this revelation that ultimately ended Hernandez’s run on the show? Or was it really that his performance of I Saw Him Standing There was the weakest of the Top 12?
While I admit the performance wasn’t an award-winning one – it wouldn’t be the one he was remembered for if he remained in the competition – it certainly wasn’t the worst of the night. That honor went to the one singer with three little names … Kristy Lee Cook. Eight Days a Week is not a country song. Now, it may have worked if it hadn’t been for her making it yodel-esque country. But I digress.
Hernandez, a native of Glendale, Ariz., the shared hometown of American Idol Season 6 winner Jordin Sparks, is a talented singer. He may have struggled with his song choices throughout the past few weeks, but that’s been the case with most every contestant. Even little David Archuleta fumbled this week. Big time.
When the last vote was counted, I imagine Hernandez was the one to exit for a mix of two things – he really hasn’t had one standout performance since Hollywood week, and the stripper thing translated into negativity. There’s no question it played into the equation, and there’s no question Idol producers are none to disappointed he’s gone.
American Idol, David Hernandez

8 Days a Week might have worked as country had the tempo of the music and the tempo of the singing matched at all. Her singing really was not that bad, but that music was insane. I think Drive My Car might have been a better fit for trying to turn into a country tune. What do I know though? I can not sing at all.
My dear Jason needs to try some more up tempo songs, otherwise I fear he will be gone sooner than he should.

I believe David Hernandez was railroaded from the idol because of bad publicity however, if that was the job that was getting him through college, why ruin his chance to get himself above the stripper thing? Clearly the “Country, 8 days a week was the one that should have been eliminated) Just ask a Beatle!

To be honest, I’m a singer and know quite a bit about music. It’s true, Christy Lee Cook, has a very good voice. She just needs to stop turning Beatle songs into Country. She needs to try something different next week. It’s more Beatle songs so she needs to arrange it but no country. Sorry Christy. As far as David Hernandez, he has a good voice, but I haven’t seen anything from him the last couple of weeks. I haven’t felt any excitement for his songs. I don’t thing the stripper thing had too much to do with it. As far as Jason. He better start doing something better. It’s hard to tell what kind of a voice he really has. He really needs to get something going. As far as Amanda, I’m having a problem with her singing. If she wants to be a Rock singer, that is great, but she is not American Idol material. I can’t even tell if she has a great voice or not. Well that’s all for now.
