‘American Idol’ down to six

Kristy Lee Cook couldn’t survive the bottom three for another week. The country-inspired contestant was the latest casualty in American Idol’s seventh season.

American Idol is winding down. Only the best of the best are left standing, fighting for the Season 7 crown.

After a night filled with performances, including One Sweet Day from the Top 7 finalists, a return from Idol alum Elliott Yamin and another performance from celebrity mentor Mariah Carey, the bottom three were announced. After a handful of pretty good to great performances, the bottom three this week were Syesha Mercado, Brooke White and Kristy Lee Cook.

It was a pretty incredible week for Syesha, who was the first of the bottom three to be sent to safety. The three girls also are roommates, making it even more emotional for all of them. And, even though she’s been bouncing back a little bit week after week, this week was the end of the road for Kristy Lee Cook.

While she started strong, Kristy Lee struggled for several weeks after making it into the Top 24. She’s found herself in the bottom three on several Wednesday nights and, this week, even though she did OK, it certainly was her turn to go. I’m glad, though I may be alone on this, that Syesha was able to stick around for another week.

The good news this week is that people actually may be seeing that Carly is the strongest female left in the competition. Because, while I like Brooke, I think there’s no question Carly is the strongest female in this year’s contest. As the Top 6 look ahead to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s week in the guest mentor spotlight, they all need to step it up.

Even though this season is being promoted as the best yet, I’m struggling to really see any one person shine week after week after week. If there is one of those people, that person certainly is David Cook. But, are you ready to give him the crown?

  1. Carla Says:

First, let me say thanks for posting so soon. I missed the show and couldn’t find anything on the ‘net except your blog. This is my first time here, and I’m so glad you posted right away. Second, I completely agree with all that you have said. Even though she wasn’t the worse last night, Kristy should have gone the first week. So, I’m glad she’s gone. Syesha is the 2nd strongest (2nd to Carly), so I too am glad she’s still in it (so, you’re not alone). She has been weak since she made the Top 12 though. I hope she picks it up. Third, David Cook should win the competition. I didn’t like him at first, but he’s been strong each week. I love his arrangements and his originality. I became a fan when he did “Billie Jean” (I’m a HUGE Michael Jackson fan; so when David did such an awesome job on that song, I had to give him my vote). Thanks again for you post.
