‘American Idol’ down to 5

Carly Smithson performs Jesus Christ Superstar during her final week on American Idol.

America, what were you thinking? Everything you did this week was wrong. American Idol should have kicked off either Brooke White or Jason Castro tonight.

But that’s not how the votes fell.

No, instead, the popularity contest certainly took control — because the better vocal performances last night were Carly Smithson and Syesha Mercado, who were in the bottom two. Ultimately, it was the end of the road for Carly.

Both of these contestants — the strongest two female singers this season — deserved another week on the show. In the end, Syesha likely will become a Broadway performer. And Carly certainly will get another recording contract. She has an incredible talent, and she was a leading contender from the beginning of the season. Unfortunately, America goofed up on voting this season.

“It must be a bit of a popularity vote this week,” Randy said.

Yes, Randy is right. Not only was it a popularity vote this week, but Carly should have ended up in this competition in the Top 3. But things will be OK for this one. Trust me on that.

“Carly Smithson has her bags packed and is on her way home. This was the second mistake the American voters have made in the past three weeks. First Michael Johns and now Carly Smithson. I am very upset at the way this played out. We must wish Carly Smithson all best for the future. We will be seeing her CD on the racks in no time.” - http://www.ramble7321.com

What a friggin’ crock. Carly was one of the best performers ,esp on this night. I’m really getting tired of the “popularity” contest. Its no longer a singing contest…i thought for sure Jason castro was on his way out finally,or my poor girl Brooke…man this is just another huge JOKE!!!America ,wake the F UP!

  4. Alicia Says:

I was totally shocked that Carley left instead of Jason Castro, I feel like everyone else does,it sucks! I tried to get through to vote for hour & half to vote, obvously it wouldn’t have made a difference, however I do wish Carley the best, in my eye’s she is a winner know matter what.

We were in disbelief when Carly was eliminated last night. It was not the right choice.I was totally sure either Jason or Brooke will go.Commom this is not a charming contest this is a singing contest ,America wake up!

  6. Teresa Walker Says:

I unlike most of you was not shocked in Carly being voted off the other night, yes Carly is a ok singer but the best on the show are still there,I have not been in any wau inpressed by any of the girls this season but the guys are wonderful,I think both Davids will be the last two,and yes America its a singing contest so just because you or I disagree with the choices of the show these kids know someone has to go,although it sucks at times, but the best two are still there and I say GO DAVID AND DAVID!
