12,000 turn out for San Diego ‘Idol’ auditions

The first day of Season 7 “American Idol” auditions found 12,000 hopefuls in San Diego waiting for a golden ticket and a chance to sing in front of Randy, Paula and Simon. Singers started forming the line at 3 a.m.

Six more auditions are set for Season 7 in Dallas; Omaha, Neb.; Atlanta; Charleston, S.C.; Miami and Philadelphia. The show returns to FOX in January.
